Macedonia, Albania give priority to enhancing economic cooperation

Macedonian and Albanian prime ministers Nikola Gruevski and Edi Rama said Wednesday that the two countries should further enhance economic cooperation.
Rama, who was on an official visit to Macedonia, said after their meeting that his country attaches special significance to the relations with Macedonia.
"Albania is interested in intensive relations with its neighbors. When it comes to Macedonia, we want to cooperate in all areas. We are prepared to open new paths of cooperation in strengthening economic cooperation through concrete ideas and projects for mutual development," Rama told a press conference.
Gruevski said that all challenges can be overcome through an open dialogue.
"Macedonia remains proactive in the enhancement of good neighborly relations and regional cooperation. We believe that all challenges can be overcome through constructive policy in the spirit of European cooperation based on the principles of respect to the sovereignty and territorial integrity," Gruevski added.
Both Gruevski and Rama said that the focus on economic cooperation should be in road and railway infrastructure as well as projects in the energy field.
In regard to the Albanian minority in Macedonia, Rama said that it is important the Ohrid framework agreement to be respected.
"Albanians in Macedonia are engaged in all political processes and are represented in the government. It is important the Ohrid Framework agreement is the starting point in Macedonia's internal political processes," Rama said.
Asked about the rights of the Macedonian minority in Albania, Rama answered "Albania will do everything to improve the life of every citizen. This is an engagement that Albania had, has and will have, regardless of the party in power." Enditem
