Slovenia's Pipistrel marks 600th ultralight aircraft

Pipistrel, the pride of Slovenian light aircraft manufacturer, announced on Friday that it has completed the 600th aircraft with the latest being exported to Australia.
In addition to the latest completed micro-light aircraft, Pipistrel has produced, together with other aircraft models and powered hang-gliders, well over 1,200 different aircraft by now, said a press release by the company.
Established in 1989, Pipistrel was the first private aircraft producer in former Yugoslavia. Slovenia declared independence from former Yugoslavia in 1991.
Pipistrel, meaning small European brown bat, is well-known for its Sinus/Virus series, which are fast, yet very economic cruise aircraft.
Slovenia's adventurer Matevz Lenarcic had North Pole adventure in Pipistrel Sinus 912 UL aircraft, which weighs merely 284 kilograms, in April-May 2013.
After having won the renowned NASA Personal Air Vehicle in 2007 and NASA General Aviation Technology in 2008, Pipistrel was again the winner of the 2011 Paris-Madrid Green Air Challenge.
