Minister vows to improve cultural ties with CEE countries

BEIJING, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Culture Minister Cai Wu on Tuesday vowed to further enhance cultural exchanges and cooperation with central and eastern European (CEE) countries.
Cai made the remarks at the first Forum on Cultural Cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European Countries held in Beijing.
The forum was organized by cultural authorities from 16 CEE countries, including Poland, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria.
China will join hands with CEE countries in conducting dialogues among different cultures and promoting diversified development and common prosperity among these cultures, Cai said.
Cai suggested continuing mutual visits among cultural officials from China and CEE countries to expand mutual understanding.
He also suggested that cultural organs on both sides should strengthen exchanges and cooperation in cultural management, public cultural services and cultural science.
He encouraged mutual cultural communication among civilians, especially among young people.
The forum concluded after cultural representatives in attendance agreed to adopt the Guidelines for Cultural Cooperation between China and the Countries of Central and Eastern Europe.
Bulgarian Culture Minister Vladimir Penev said Bulgaria attaches great importance to the forum and appreciates the adoption of the guidelines.
He proposed hosting the next Cultural Cooperation Forum between China and CEE Countries in Bulgaria in 2015.
In April 2012, former Premier Wen Jiabao visited Poland for the China-Central and Eastern European leaders' meeting and announced 12 measures to enhance relations with CEE countries, including holding the 2013 Forum on Cultural Cooperation between China and CEE Countries in China.
