8th Agro-trade & Economic Cooperation Forum between China and Central-Eastern European Countries kicks off in Anhui Province

The 8th Agro-trade & Economic Cooperation Forum between China and Central-Eastern European Countries was held in Hefei, Anhui Province on Sept.11th, 2013. The Forum was jointly organized by MOA and the People's Government of Anhui Province.
Vice Minister Niu Dun attended and addressed the Forum. Vice Governor of Anhui Province Liang Weiguo and eight ministers or vice ministers from 11 Central and Eastern European countries also delivered speeches at the Opening Ceremony.

In his speech, Niu said China and Central-Eastern European countries enjoy deep traditional friendship, and are important partners to each other.
Economic and trade cooperation is the most dynamic and vigorous area in cooperative relations between China and Central-Eastern Europe. Despite that the scale of trade and economic cooperation in agriculture are still fairly small, China and Central-Eastern Europe are highly complementary in this area, and thus enjoy enormous potential for future cooperation.
As long as the two sides maintain confidence for cooperation and a friendly relationship as well as adopt an open and inclusive approach to cooperation, China and Central-Eastern European countries are bound to achieve win-win cooperation outcome in agro-trade and economic cooperation.
Vice Governor Liang stressed that agricultural trade has been increasing between Anhui Province and Central-Eastern Europe while cooperation activities expanded and mechanisms improved since the Forum was launched in 2010. The province has been conducting agricultural trade and agricultural cooperation with 14 Central-Eastern European countries.
The Forum is expected to boost agricultural cooperation between Anhui Province and Central-Eastern European countries and development of modern agriculture in Anhui.
In his speech, Minister Dimitar Grekov pointed out that agricultural development is facing challenges posed by price volatility in the world market, extreme weather events, growing population and rural community development. Thus, greater international cooperation is vital and significant. He also spoke highly of China's efforts in convening the Forum.
The Forum also received extensive positive responses from other participants, who regarded the forum as an important platform for dialogue and information exchange between agribusinesses and governments from both China and Central-Eastern European countries.
Agricultural cooperation between China and Central-Eastern European countries has been broadening its scope, expanding its scale and upgrading its level over the years, which was partly attributable to the successes of the Forum.
At the Forum, delegates from China and Central-Eastern European countries briefed about the latest development and policies in agriculture in their own countries. They also exchanged views on issues of common concern, particularly on policies for international cooperation, strengths in agricultural resources, trade and investment environment and policies, inspection and quarantine requirements at the Customs. These discussions will lay a good foundation for further cooperation.
During the Forum, a business matchmaking event was held between Chinese enterprises and those from Central-Eastern European countries. It proved to be fruitful and received applause from domestic and foreign entrepreneurs.
