On August 14, 2012, Secretariat for Cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European Countries held a forum on localities and businesses participating in China-Central and Eastern Europe cooperation in Beijing. Vice Foreign Minister and Secretary-general of the Secretariat Song Tao delivered a keynote speech to the forum. The event was attended by responsible officials from foreign affairs offices of 11 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities including Tianjin, Inner Mongolia, Liaoning, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Shandong, Hubei, Guangdong, Chongqing and Sichuan, representatives from dozens of Chinese enterprises and financial institutions and envoys and diplomats of 16 central and eastern European countries.



Song in his speech expounded the significance of strengthening the cooperation between China and Central and Eastern Europe, pointing out that China's cooperation with central and eastern European countries is not only conducive to their respective national economic construction, but also conducive to promoting a comprehensive and balanced development of China-Europe relations. Song said he hoped to build an effective platform for Chinese local governments and enterprises to participate in cooperation with central and eastern European countries through this forum, and promote the implementation of the 12 initiatives raised by Premier Wen Jiabao at the China- Central and Eastern Europe leaders' meeting in Warsaw in April.
Local government and business representatives expressed a positive desire for participating in China - Central and Eastern Europe cooperation and raised cooperation intentions and proposals. They agreed the forum organized by the Secretariat reflects diplomacy serves economic construction.
The diplomats of 16 central and eastern European countries introduced their own investment environment and their proposals on promoting China - Central and Eastern Europe cooperation. They also appreciated the Secretariat's important role as a bridge for promoting cooperation.
