The 8th National Coordinators' Meeting for Cooperation Between China and Central and Eastern European Countries Successfully Held in Riga of Latvia

On October 14, 2016, the 8th National Coordinators' Meeting for Cooperation Between China and Central and Eastern European Countries (CEEC) was Held in Riga, the capital of Latvia. Assistant Foreign Minister and Secretary-General of the Secretariat for China-CEEC Cooperation Liu Haixing as well as State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Coordinator Andrejs Pildegovičs of Latvia co-chaired the meeting. National coordinators or representatives of the 16 Central and Eastern European countries and representatives of EU institutions were present at the meeting.

Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Haixing said that the "16+1 cooperation" conforms to the development demands of the times. It is a mechanism for solidarity, cooperation, mutual benefit and win-win results between China and the CEEC, a platform of promoting the development of bilateral relations as well as an important part and beneficial supplement of China-EU relations. The "16+1"cooperation" mechanism should strengthen the docking between the "Belt and Road" construction and China-EU relations, constantly explore new ideas, put forward new initiatives, expand new areas and score new achievements. The fifth China-CEEC Meeting of Heads of Government will be held within this year, and China is ready to work with all parties to contribute to the success of the meeting.

Andrejs Pildegovičs said that Latvia highly appreciates the "Belt and Road" initiative, and actively supports and participates in the "16+1 cooperation". Latvia is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with China and other 15 Central and Eastern European countries to constantly synergize consensus and strive to hold a fruitful and splendid "16+1" Meeting of Heads of Government.

Attendees reviewed the progress of cooperation in various fields since the meeting in Suzhou, discussed the direction of cooperation in the next stage and exchanged in-depth views on topics including the preparations for a new China-CEEC Meeting of Heads of Government.
