Alqi Puli, Deputy Foreign Minister and national coordinator of Albania, arrived in Beijing on Sunday afternoon (May 11) to attend the third National Coordinators' Meeting for Cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European Countries (CEEC).

In an interview with China Radio International, Alqi said China-CEEC cooperation helps to bring opportunities to boost the economic development in Albania.

"Our cooperation with China started as early as the 1960s and 70s. China was already Albania's largest investor at that time. China's investment not only helped to boost the economic and social development in Albania, but also promoted the friendship between the peoples of the two countries. In the twenty years since, with the progress of domestic reforms, great changes have taken place in Albania, and we believe that with these changes, Albania is now even more ready to attract investment from China. The China-CEEC Investment Cooperation Fund serves as a good opportunity for Albania to boost its economic development."

Alqi said that Albania is hoping to cooperate with China on transportation infrastructure construction on the platform of China-CEEC cooperation. Moreover, Albania has rich natural resources and it is another important factor for attracting Chinese investment.
"During the Meeting of Heads of Government of China and Central and Eastern European Countries in Bucharest last year, we have proposed to the Chinese side for cooperation on investing on Albania's transportation infrastructure. Our country has great demand for construction of railways, ports and viaduct bridges, especially for infrastructure linking with neighboring countries, and the cooperation with China can meet our demands. Moreover, Albania has the advantage of mineral resources such as petroleum. We also have great potential for cooperation with China in agriculture, tourism and handicraft industry."
