Xi Jinping: China willing to enhance global cooperation to curb COVID-19 spread

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday said China is willing to work with the international community, including the Czech Republic, to curb the spread of COVID-19 and jointly respond to its impact on the global economy.

Xi made the remarks on a phone call with Czech President Milos Zeman. 

The Chinese president said China will firmly maintain international fairness and justice, as well as the  basic rules of international relations, adding that he believes that through cooperation, the international community and humankind will eventually overcome the pandemic. 

Xi also thanked the Czech Republic for sending medical supplies to China and vowed to share its virus prevention and control experience with the country. 

He said China highly values its relationship with the Czech Republic and that he looks forward to meeting Zeman after the virus is under control.

Zeman thanked China for offering support and assistance to the Czech Republic in its fight against the coronavirus and said he is a sincere friend to China. 

He also vowed to push forward bilateral cooperation and said he hopes to visit China soon.  

China and Peru to enhance bilateral ties ahead of 50th anniversary

Xi also had a phone conversation with Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on the same day in which he reiterated China's firm support and belief in Peru in its fight against the novel coronavirus pandemic, pledging that China will continue to provide necessary assistance and support to the best of its capacity.

China has always been committed to international cooperation, Xi said, adding that the country remained open and transparent in information sharing and will continue to assist other countries and international organizations.

Speaking of the outbreak in Latin American and Caribbean countries, including Peru, the Chinese president underlined the importance of international cooperation and the WHO's leading role in the fight against the virus.

Next year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries. Xi said he expects that the two countries will enhance communication and advance the development of China-Peru strategic partnership.

Vizcarra, for his part, hailed the close ties between the two countries. He expressed his appreciation for China's support and assistance in the country's fight against the virus and said he is looking forward to the further development of bilateral ties.
