Belarusian Energy Minister Denis Moroz said on September 2 that Belarus and China were actively pursuing high-level energy cooperation, with substantial achievements and promising prospects.

Responding to a question from Xinhua at a press conference marking the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Belarus’s Ministry of Energy, Moroz said the two countries had maintained positive engagement over many years at both government and business levels. The ministry will do its utmost to ensure the development of reliable energy infrastructure and strengthen alignment between Belarus’s national development strategy and the Belt and Road Initiative.

Moroz said China played an important role in the development of Belarus’s energy infrastructure. The two countries have successfully carried out projects including a turbine project at Minsk No. 5 combined heat and power plant. Experience has shown that Chinese technology and equipment offer high quality, reliability and efficiency, delivering tangible benefits to the Belarusian economy.

Belarus is willing to continue exploring new areas of growth in energy cooperation with China, Moroz said, noting the broad prospects for cooperation. For example, Belarus will soon work with China on the Mozyr electricity storage system project, which is important for improving the reliability of power supplies to the local refinery and managing the electricity load profile.
