Albania to provide free civil legal assistance to disabled people

Albanian Minister of Justice Nasip Naco on Monday pledged free civil legal assistance to individuals with disabilities during a round-table discussion hosted by the EU Delegation to Albania.
Naco underlined that the institution he heads is very sensitive on the issues concerning the rights of the persons with disabilities and is committed to ensure free access to justice by this vulnerable social groups.
According to Naco, the new reform envisages free legal assistance to all individuals with disabilities and people who have no access to justice due to their social and economic problems.
"To speed up the process, a legal consulting office was become operational soon according to a decision by the Ministry of Justice on January 22, 2014. This office will be opened also in other big cities like Shkoder, Korca and Durres," Naco said.
The Head of the EU Delegation to Albania, Ettore Sequi, emphasized that respecting the rights of persons with disabilities is a crucial criterion for Albania's integration into the European Union.
"EU has prepared a 15-million-euro (20.56-million-U.S. dollar) project to support disabled people in order to enable Albania move forward on its path towards European integration," Sequi said.
