Xinhua, Beijing, October 21 — Greek Culture Minister Lina Mendoni said in an interview with the media in Beijing on October 20 that dialogue between Greece and China, two ancient civilizations, is bound to produce positive results, and that the two countries should draw on the wisdom of their civilizations to answer the questions existing in the world today.
Mendoni attended the 4th Liangzhu Forum in Hangzhou on October 18 before travelling to Beijing. Asked about the Global Civilization Initiative, she said: “Chinese civilization has a profound heritage. With the world facing so many challenges, the two ancient civilizations of Greece and China can offer valuable ideas for addressing them.”
Mendoni said holding exhibitions in both countries is a focus of cultural cooperation. The Acropolis Museum staged a highly successful exhibition of Chinese treasures, and Greece has held more than six exhibitions in China in recent years. A digital exhibition co-organized by the National Archaeological Museum and the Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum Site Museum was also a success, and research cooperation between educational institutions and universities in the two countries has produced impressive results.
She said a Chinese porcelain exhibition will open soon on Crete, and the Greek public is looking forward to it.
Joint approach in archaeological work is continuing. With the establishment of the Chinese School of Classical Studies at Athens in Greece in 2024, archaeologists from the two countries have carried out joint excavations at the Angelokastro site in western Greece with notable results, Mendoni said. Such cooperation has given strong impetus to people-to-people exchanges.
Looking ahead to the 55th anniversary of Greece-China diplomatic relations next year, Mendoni said the two sides will continue to co-host exhibitions, strengthen cooperation in audiovisual and film industries, and further deepen collaboration in education and research.
