China is interested in quality and fresh foodstuffs produced in Estonia, Hillar Lemetti, secretary general of the Estonian Ministry of Rural Affairs said upon his return from a visit to China.

Lemetti met in Shanghai with Li Yan, deputy director general of the center for international trade of the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture, who said that quality and clean food from Estonia is very much awaited on the Chinese market, spokespeople for the Estonian Ministry of Rural Affairs said.

It is possible at this point for Estonia to export sprats, Baltic herring and dairy products to China. Lemetti said at the meeting with the Chinese official that Estonia is interested in expanding export opportunities.

The plan now is to get rapid feedback from relevant Chinese institutions as regards certificates for the import of Estonian poultry, salmonidae and compound food to China.

The Estonian official made a proposal to extend the action plan in trade and research signed between the two ministries in 2015. Li Yan accepted the proposal, and it was agreed that the process of extending the action plan will be started with a view to signing it already in the near future.
