Ambassador Li Chao calls on Estonian Speaker

  On 20 February 2018, Chinese Ambassador H.E. Mr. Li Chao paid a courtesy call on the President of the Riigikogu of Estonia H.E. Mr. Eiki Nestor.

  The Ambassador conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes from the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China H.E. Mr. Zhang Dejiang to the Estonian Speaker. He also forwarded the congratulations on the Estonian centenary from the NPC standing Committee Chairman. The Ambassador spoke positively of the relationship between China and Estonia in recent years. "Our relationship is developing fast. We have had successful cooperation both at bilateral level and within the 16+1 cooperation format", said the Ambassador. He was optimistic that both countries could expand the scope of cooperation in the framework of China's Belt and Road Initiative.

  The Ambassador expressed his satisfaction on the exchanges between the NPC and the Riigikogu. "The visit of Nordic and Baltic Speakers of Parliament to China last month was very successful, helping all sides to strengthen high-level contacts and deepen mutual understanding", said the Ambassador. He hoped the legislatures of the two countries will play a positive role in promoting a steady development of bilateral relationship between China and Estonia. "I hope the Riigikogu and the NPC will enhance high-level exchanges and have more frequent contacts between different committees", he added.

  The Speaker welcomed the Ambassador to Estonia and asked him to forward his best regards to the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the NPC. He spoke highly of the visit to China by the Nordic and Baltic Speakers of parliament. "We had a fantastic visit to China and very high-level meetings with Chinese leaders", said the Speaker. He said Estonia is ready to work with the Chinese side to further strengthen the bilateral relationship and bring mutually beneficial cooperation to the next level. The Speaker agreed that the legislatures of the two countries should have more and frequent contacts in order to promote mutual understanding and win-win cooperation.
