Ambassador Jiang Xiaoyan met the prominent sinologist Igor Radev, who holds a chair at the Sinology Knowledge Centre of the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts, on October 22. They exchanged views on deepening China-North Macedonia people-to-people exchanges, especially on translating each other's books and on developing the centre.

Radev presented Ambassador Jiang with his latest Chinese-language monograph, On Writing: Types, Structures and Change. Built on Aristotle's framework of the four causes, the book proposes a new model for analysing writing and a classification and typology of the world's scripts and writing systems, offering a useful exploration of the morphological and phonological features of particular languages and their correlations.
Radev holds a doctorate in literature from Beijing Normal University and has worked in sinology and translation for more than 20 years. He has translated ancient Chinese philosophical classics including the Dao De Jing, the Book of Songs, the Book of Documents, the Analects and Mencius, as well as modern and contemporary poetry, published several academic monographs and won the 15th Special Contribution Award of Chinese books.
