Albanian Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Water Administration Edmond Panariti reiterated Tuesday that government is committed to increase its spending on agriculture, according to ATA news agency.
Panariti said that imposing the market discipline through the certification mark and stopping further degradation of the fishing industry are among the top priorities for the institution he heads in 2014.
Panariti said that government plans to increase its financial support through the farm subsidy schemes by 70 percent compared with the previous year.
Panariti acknowledged that "despite increased financial support, agriculture remains under-financed if compared to other counties in the region, including the neighboring Macedonia, which this year allocated 150 million euros (204 million U.S. dollars) in subsidies to farmers."
