Ambassador Li Chao visits Viljandi of Estonia

  On 26-27 July, Chinese Ambassador to Estonia Mr Li Chao visited Viljandi, the sixth largest city in Estonia, and met with the Mayor of Viljandi Madis Timpson.

  The Mayor welcomed the Ambassador to Viljandi. He gave an overview of the development of Viljandi in economy, education, culture and sports over recent years and spoke positively of the active relationship between the city and the Embassy, appreciating the support from the Embassy to local organizations for establishing contact with their Chinese partners. "Viljandi is interested in strengthening cooperation with Chinese Embassy in Estonia and deliver more results to the people", said the Mayor.

  Ambassador Li congratulated the achievements made in Viljandi. He said the relations between China and Estonia is now at the best period over recent years. "China and Estonia have had successful cooperation at the bilateral and China-EU level. Our two countries also delivered many tangible results within the format of China and Central and Eastern European Countries Cooperation. Our mutually beneficial cooperation in the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative is taking off", said the Ambassador. "The cooperation at local level is an essential part of China-Estonia relationship. The Embassy stands ready to help Viljandi to establish contacts with Chinese local authorities."

  During the visit, together with members of Estonia-China Parliamentary Group of the Riigikogu, the Ambassador attended a concert by a group of young Guzheng musicians from Sichuan Province of China, who take part in the 26th Viljandi Folk Music Festival. The festival is one of the most important culture events in Viljandi and well-known in Estonian and beyond. This year, more than 50 groups from Estonia and other countries or regions presented their repertoires during the festival.
