Vice Foreign Minister Song Tao Attends China-CEEC Local Leaders' Meeting

From July 2 to 4, 2013, the Local Leaders' Meeting of China and Central and Eastern European Countries (China-CEEC 2013) was held in Chongqing, China. Present at the meeting were Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski of Macedonia, Prime Minister Victor-Viorel Ponta of Romania, and around 70 representatives of China and 16 Central and Eastern European countries from provinces, municipalities, cities, relevant departments of the central government and entrepreneurs. Sun Zhengcai, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee, attended the opening ceremony and delivered the keynote speech. Song Tao, Vice Foreign Minister and Secretary-General of the China-CEEC Secretariat, attended and addressed the opening ceremony.



In his speech, Song Tao said that the meeting is a major gathering since the launch of China-CEEC cooperation and an innovation in how China and Europe engage each other. Since the Meeting between Leaders of China and CEEC in Warsaw in April 2012, China-CEEC cooperation has delivered many results in the fields of economy, trade, culture, education and tourism. To implement the consensus reached by the state leaders and to expand and deepen the cooperation still more, we need to think creatively to explore more possible ways and means. Enhanced local-level cooperation will help engage more organizations, businesses and individuals in China-CEEC cooperation, by turning overarching national-level policies for cooperation into concrete results on the ground for greater sustainability and depth of the cooperation. Hope the Meeting will help establish links between Chinese and CEE localities and businesses, open up more ways of collaboration and make cooperation at the local level a new major pillar of China-CEEC cooperation.
Song Tao stressed that China-CEEC cooperation is an integral component of China-Europe relations. Enhanced cooperation between the two sides contributes to the broadening and improvement of China-Europe cooperation and will enable further development of China-Europe relations on a more comprehensive and balanced basis. China is willing to work with the CEE countries to advance cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, science and technology and people-to-people and cultural exchanges, with a view to producing more results.
During the session, Song Tao held discussions with the coordinators and Heads of Diplomatic Missions of the 16 CEE countries, exchanging views with them on topics of common concern such as China-CEEC cooperation. He gave a joint interview to a Chinese media pool including Xinhua News Agency, China Central Television (CCTV), China Radio International (CRI), and China Network Television (CNTV).



China-CEEC 2013 is co-hosted by the People's Government of Chongqing Municipality and China-CEEC Secretariat. The theme of the meeting is Cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European Countries' Development Opportunities for Provinces and Cities. Programs of the Meeting includes panel discussions on investment, technological innovation, cultural exchange and small and medium-sized enterprises cooperation, as well as business promotion sessions, a photo exhibition of China-CEEC traditional friendship and a CEEC classic movies show.
