A roundtable discussion between representatives from central and eastern European (CEE) countries and several local government departments of Tibet Autonomous Region was held in Lhasa, Tibet on July 14, including the local Religions Affairs Department, the Development and Reform Commission of the Tibet Autonomous Region, the local Education Department, the Department of Environment Protection of Tibet as well as Tibet Branch of the Buddhist Association of China. Vice Chairman of the CPC Tibet Committee Suolang Renzeng, along with other heads of departments introduced the religions affairs, economic and social development, education and culture of Tibet during the event.
Representatives from CEE countries exchanged views with local officials from Tibet about many issues including bilingual education in Tibet Autonomous Region, local industrial structure, and supportive policies on economic development by the central government, traditional culture and religion protection, environmental protection standards, as well as exploration of local mineral resources. Meanwhile, representatives from the CEE countries also expressed appreciation for the achievement of Tibet Autonomous Region. They said such dialogue and exchange of views helped them get a better understanding of Tibet.
