Albanian migrant remittances fall by 23 pct in 2013

Data from the Bank of Albania showed that the remittances fell by 23 percent in 2013, according to ATA on Wednesday.
The Albanian central bank said the fall in money transfer Albanians working abroad send home to support their families is directly attributed to the ongoing economic crisis.
The falling trend of the flow of remittances into Albania is expected to continue in 2014 and slightly improve in 2015 and 2016.
In its latest report, the central bank noted that the volume of remittances in Albania is expected to remain at low levels on long-term basis and remittances will be considered less important for the country's economy.
According to the central bank, the money migrants sent back to their families hit record low to only 345 million euros (about 473 million U.S. dollars) over the first nine months of 2013.
